About Us

Established by Paul Miller in 2005 as a stringed instrument dealership on the South Side of Glasgow, Giffnock Violins offers

a spectrum of services for instruments and bows with stock

ranging from beginner level through to professional standard.

We stock instruments of the Italian, French, English, German and Scottish Schools as well as fine French, English and German bows.

 

Paul studied Mathematics at the University of Glasgow before pursuing a successful career as a field engineer in the airline business.

Paul has a lifelong passion for stringed instruments with many years experience restoring and dealing in instruments and bows.

He studied bow rehair and repair with bow masters Lynn Hannings and George Rubino

at the University of New Hampshire in the United States and undertakes all types of bow repair.

Paul’s passion for stringed instruments led him to carry out extensive research on historical violin making in Scotland.

He was delighted to offer his research for inclusion in the recent publication  ‘Violin making in Scotland 1750 – 1950″.

contributing much of the source material on the Glasgow and Edinburgh makers.

Paul is an accomplished guitarist, having studied with Glasgow jazz guitarist Ian McAffie and  is the lead guitarist in the six piece showband ‘Backbeat’
